Melatonin
Melatonin and kids: a parent's guide
Sleep routines come first. When a pediatrician says a little melatonin is okay, keep the dose low.
Draft article. Medical review by a registered dietitian is pending before launch.
For most children, the most powerful sleep tools are free: a consistent bedtime, dim lights in the last hour, and screens off. Melatonin is a hormone, and it is not a substitute for a routine.
If your pediatrician suggests melatonin for occasional sleeplessness, lower doses are usually recommended for children. Our kids gummy is 1 mg, comes in a child-resistant bottle, and is not intended for nightly long-term use without medical advice. Consult your pediatrician before use.
Key points
- Store all supplements out of children's reach.
- Use melatonin occasionally, not nightly, unless advised by your pediatrician.
- Keep a sleep diary to share with your child's doctor.
