Omega-3 (DHA + EPA)
Algae omega-3: go straight to the source
Fish get their DHA and EPA from algae. Algal oil gives you the same long-chain omega-3s without the fish.
Draft article. Medical review by a registered dietitian is pending before launch.
Fish are rich in DHA and EPA because they eat algae, or eat fish that eat algae. Algal oil skips the middle step and delivers those long-chain omega-3s directly, in a plant softgel instead of gelatin.
Plant foods like flax and chia contain ALA, a shorter omega-3 that the body converts to DHA and EPA only in small amounts.
Key points
- DHA supports normal brain and eye function.*
- EPA and DHA support heart health.*
- Algal oil is grown in tanks, so it avoids ocean contaminants.
